We headed out this morning for 'Belvedere' a beautiful palace that has been turned in a museum. Wonderful works of art including many unique pieces of Gustav Klimt's collection, including 'The Kiss' and 'Judith'.
Spent a few hours there and then decided to ride the tram to see some of the breathtaking architecture in the city.
We hopped off at the Bristol Hotel and got directions from the doorman to 'Naschmarkt' an outdoor market that has been in existence since the 1600s. Filled with restaurants, cafes, fish, fruit/vegetable stands, spices, and practically anything you want you can find there.
Came across the neatest apotheke near the Opera. In existence since 1551 the interior is original and totally blew our minds!!!
Then we decided we needed water...now you can buy a litre bottle for 1Euro, but we found a market yesterday where it was only 45E. Well, even though it required a underground ride + transfers and 30 minutes of our time....well, we save a whopping 45E....got lost, peed our pants laughing and made fools out of ourselves.
This evening we went to the Vienna State Opera to see LaTraviata. The building was spectacular, the opera moving, and we got nosebleeds we were so high up.
Goodnight and Auf Wiedersehen Vienna.
Are you "free-wheeling" your way through Vienna, or is this a "tour"?
ReplyDeleteVienna was 'free-wheeling'. We were here last October, so sort of knew our way around and had gotten tickets for the Lipizzane horse show and Opera when we were there.
